Make and Use Handy Shop Jigs
Saturday and Sunday, September 29 & 30, 2018 (2 days)

Every woodworker can enhance his or her skills by adding some helpful tools to their arsenal. YOu can
learn bout, make and take home a plethora of them in this class. From a simple bench hook to shooting
boards that allow you to precisely plane exact angles, plus the very popular sawyer's bench built to your
own measurements, this class will teach you to make and effectively use the following jigs/tools:
    1) Bench hook
An effective third hand when performing work on your bench, this jig provides a small work space
with a stop to hold it in place.
    2) Shooting board - straight and mitered
If you do exacting joinery work or need your wood ends to be trimmed and square, you need a good
shooting board. We wil give you great information about what a shooting board is and how to use it, the
different kinds you can make, and helpful tips and tricks. You will learn why a nickel is so important!
    3) Gage blocks
Used to set up table saws, routers, miter boxes and hold tolerances when doing paring work (great
for joinery!) and any number of other tasks where consistency is required for accuracy.
    4) Center finder
A device to quickly mark the center of a board without measuring, this jig is very useful for joinery,
as it will easily find and mark halves of potential joint layouts.
    5) Sawyer's bench
Contrary to popular belief, a sawyer's bench is not a one-size-fits-all tool. It is specific to your
individual measurements and will create strain and ineffectiveness if it is not. A sawyer's bench is a very
useful tool - not only to saw on, but it can also be used to cut, chisel, screw, nail and many other
activities, even to eat your lunch on! This course gives participants the opportunity to construct their
own bench to their own measurements to take home, using several different joining and fitting methods,
and demonstrates effective work using the bench.
