The Joinery Challenge
Sunday, October 14, 2018

The challenge is on! This project, completed successfully, was often used to mark the advancement of an
apprentice to a journeyman. Building on the Basic Joinery class, this course will challenge you to learn or
enhance joinery skills by making a sturdy wooden frame using six pieces of wood and nine NON-GLUED
joints. To create this frame, you will learn a pocket-hole joint, a mitered butt joint, a pinned and mitered
butt joint, a corner slip joint, a corner half-lap joint, a center half-lap joint, a half-lap dovetail joint, a
mortise-and-tenon joint and a bridle joint. Wood is provided (extra pieces too, if necessary!), and
participants will each build their own frame with instruction and oversight from Ron.

PREREQUISITE: Woodworking with Ron's Basic Joinery class or working basic joinery skills.
